The Spencer Church hosted another successful Mobile Food Pantry on May 1, serving 152 clients.

Once each quarter the Spencer Church hosts the Mobile Food Pantry, partnering with the Iowa Food Bank, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and Spencer city employees. What began in 2015 with about 20 volunteers serving 115 families has grown to approximately 40 volunteers serving an average of 160 families.

It’s incredible to witness the many volunteers unpack and set out 5,000 – 8,000 pounds of food, transforming the fellowship hall into a market in just a couple of hours. Many of the volunteers are not church members, so the Mobile Food Pantry is a great way not only to meet the needs of people in our community, but to develop relationships with clients and the other volunteers as well.

The warmth and friendliness of the volunteers from each of the participating organizations is what makes this ministry so successful. A client just told us that our food pantry is the friendliest and best organized one they have attended. What a great compliment! We are truly blessed by the opportunity to meet the needs of our community while developing relationships with such a great group of people.
