From the music to the horses, campfires, stories, games, crafts, food and even a chuck wagon, the Spencer Church recently brought the Old West back to life for their “Cactusville” Vacation Bible School.sp
From July 16-20, 19 children learned about a Jesus who not only saves us but gives us a holy calling. Each night featured a special calling, with activities designed to correspond to the nightly callings.
Night one
The buckaroos became deputies in training, starting with learning about Called to Different, just like John the Baptist, who was called to be different. We are not called to be conformed to this world but rather to live a Christian life.
Night two
The deputies in training learned about the Call to be Faithful, just like Abraham who was called to be faithful to God. Abraham, by faith, obeyed God and went, even though he did not know where he was going. We as Christians are called to be faithful and to obey God.
Night three
The deputies in training learned about the Call to Forgive, just like Joseph, who forgave his brothers for selling him into slavery. We as Christians are called to forgive those who sin against us, just like our heavenly father will forgive us also.
Night four
The deputies in training learned about the Call to Give, just like Jesus, who died for our sins. Jesus saves us and gives us a holy calling, not according to our works but according to His own purpose and the grace (Eph. 5:2).
Night five
We celebrated with the deputies in training and their parents with songs and the final swearing in of our deputies. Their final oath was to share the love of Jesus with all the people that they meet.
