The Clay County Fair, located in Spencer, Iowa, is billed as the “World’s Greatest County Fair.” On average it hosts 320,000 visitors during the nine-day event, with people from all over the world coming or returning each year.

For the last 20 years the Spencer Church has had a booth at the fair, with all kinds of promotional information and materials for adults and children concerning Jesus, loving your neighbor, the Sabbath, Adventist World Aviation, Bible studies, our Mobile Food Pantry, partnering in Love Spencer and the health message. We also provide free blood pressure checks for anyone who would like to take the time to sit and visit.

The booth is a wonderful way to meet people and share with them what our church is doing in the community and beyond. It also provides church members with an opportunity to share their faith and answer any questions that people might have.

Recently, a gentleman who was getting his blood pressure checked saw our sign and said, “You worship on Saturday? That’s biblical.” We discussed creation week, how God rested on the seventh day, and how in the fourth commandment God asks us to remember the Sabbath. We sent him home with more information.

We thank God for the opportunity to make these connections and look forward to doing it again next year.
