The Ottumwa Torches Pathfinder club recently enjoyed a field trip to the local animal shelter. In preparation, they made interactive toys and homemade treats for the dogs.
The Ottumwa Heartland Humane Society provides care and lodging for displaced dogs and cats and have placed hundreds of pets in homes through their adoption program.
The Pathfinders enjoyed playing with the animals, handing out treats, and walking many of the dogs. They also donated food, treats, and litter to the shelter. The staff expressed appreciation, and the kids enjoyed working with them and spending time with the animals.
